ABSTRACT

End-of-life care professionals face a multitude of demands in their daily work, complicated by frequent experiences of patient death and ensuing grief. The resulting stress and burnout adversely affect both quality of patient care and quality of caregiver health. Mindful Compassion Art-based Therapy (MCAT) was developed as a structured, multimodal, group-based intervention for reducing stress and enhancing resilience in EoL care professionals through the reflective power of mindfulness meditation and the expressive power of art-making. Findings from a randomized control trial with EoL care professionals demonstrate the effectiveness, acceptability, and feasibility of MCAT for augmenting clinical supervision and bolstering self-care practices.
