ABSTRACT

When we think of hoarding, we may be impressed by the physical presentation of the issue and find ourselves looking for ways to understand the minds associated with the behavior. This chapter guides readers to take a deep dive into the minds and hearts of people living with hoarding challenges, through the lens of grief. A mixture of clinical phenomena and scientific findings is presented to speak to topics including: Why do people hoard? How is hoarding is related to grief? What does it look like to heal hoarding with compassion-based approaches? It is our hope that readers will understand the phenomenon and ways to help clinically better after reading the chapter.
