ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a rich description of the landscape of inclusion in Canadian schools. It draws on history, law, sociology, and geography to paint a picture of the evolution of inclusion across the country. The chapter explains structure, cultures, and practices—unpacking the structure of the book—of inclusion in each Canadian province and territory, as public education is largely jurisdictional, offering a unique view of Canadian inclusion in education. It introduces each of the chapters thematically, exploring their relationship to scholarship beyond Canada, through a comparative lens.
