ABSTRACT

The transnational group exhibition Neither Black/Red/Yellow Nor Woman opened in September 2019 at the newly established Times Art Center Berlin, co-curated by Nikita Yingqian Cai, Chief Curator at Guangdong Times Museum in Guangzhou and Xiaoyu Weng, Associate Curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City. Curated with a queer-feminist lens on the artists of the wider Asian diaspora, the chapter discusses strategies of feminist curating as organizing that were implemented in the show. Neither Black/Red/Yellow Nor Woman included the work of nineteen contemporary artists and takes its inspiration from three art historical figures (Pan Yuliang, Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, and Trinh.T Minh-ha) who both foreground and undermine the relationship of the work to “Asian” art. The chapter highlights different Asian diasporic identities and thereby foregrounds the distinctive dimension of Asian women's experience as artists.
