ABSTRACT

The “womanifesto,” instead of staying as a fixed text or one-time public declaration of a feminist organization's views and practices, can be more useful if considered a dynamic process of capturing the learning experiences of the organization as it works with women and communities. This process will be demonstrated by a self-reflection on the work of Gantala Press, a young, independent, volunteer-run, feminist, all-women small press and literary collective based in Metro Manila, the Philippines. The text will recall how specific entries to the Press’ 2019 “Publishing Womanifesto” were initially drafted, and how these entries are being re-articulated following experience on the ground as artists and participants in the people's movement. The entries cover the Press's activities pertaining to the gathering and curation of material, editing and translation, and distribution.
