ABSTRACT

The present position of Gaelic in the educational system is such that it could be considerably improved if the Gaelic-speaking population made a concerted and sustained demand for such an improvement. The position of Gaelic and of Gaelic culture in the educational pattern is not going to be determined in the future any more than it has been in the past or at the present time by educational considerations alone. If the leadership could be forthcoming, and there is faith in the value of what is being attempted, there are quite a number of practical measures which can be contemplated for the improvement in the immediate future of the position of Gaelic and Gaelic culture within the present pattern of education. There are even signs that the process of nationalisation will go farther and effect an alignment between the Scottish educational system and the English educational system.
