ABSTRACT

Losiny Ostrov National Park is one of the few national parks of its size in the world to be situated within a megalopolis. There are many forest-parks in the Moscow metropolitan area, such as Bitzevsky and Kuzminsky parks. Forest-park is a special category of green areas in Russian classification and refers to a partially planted or modified natural forest within the city limits that has design and planning elements and a maintenance regime. The Moscow part of the Losiny Ostrov is also crossed by the Moscow Little Ring Railway. The railway offers a quick route to Losiny Ostrov for the people of Moscow. The National Park Losiny Ostrov is divided into three zones: 53.94 square kilometers is specially protected and closed to the public, 31.30 square kilometers is for training and excursions, open for restricted visitors and only along the park’s established routes, and 29.81 square kilometers is open for recreation.
