ABSTRACT

This chapter will explore one of the earliest examples of South–South connection between India and Latin America. Specifically, the focus here is on the Indo–Argentine literary transactions to demonstrate that attempts to forge a direct relationship between these two countries began as early as the nineteenth century and reached their peak in the twentieth century with Rabindranath Thakur (1861–1941). To historicize this process, this chapter underscores literary and extra-literary factors, especially the impact of Europe on the Indo–Argentine dialogue. In the process of tracing this history of reception, this chapter includes literary transduction and certain socio-political factors that inform any process of reception.
