ABSTRACT
This chapter leverages the study of French philosopher Michel de Certeau to ponder discursive relations of power in lettered (highbrow) versus popular (lowbrow) culture. It reflects on the role of the historian (and history as a field)—inevitably displaced and dislocated from her object of study.
