ABSTRACT

This chapter is an analysis of the current Polish legislation on cemeteries and burials. It will present the essential solutions concerning the registration of a death, transport of a body and the sanitary requirements related to it, the course of a funeral, and exhumation procedures. The analysis will also cover the treatment of bodies of persons who have not been buried by entities legally authorized to do so. Separate consideration will be given to the regulations related to the burial place, restrictions on its size, and the principles governing its use. These will be the essential regulations of Polish law on the issues of cemeteries. The analysis will also cover the principles of establishment, enlargement, and management of both communal and religious cemeteries, taking into account the principles relating to the protection of monuments.
