ABSTRACT

There are two dominant models of funeral parlors in Poland: the municipal type and private business. The Polish funeral industry is characterized by fragmentation and competitiveness. Most funeral companies, which number about 2,500, employ fewer than 10 people. Only a few funeral companies have a modern funeral establishment. The outdated law on cemeteries and burials, as well as the lack of adequate regulations regarding the requirements for funeral establishments, gives rise to numerous pathologies.
