ABSTRACT

This chapter delves into the disruptive effects of COVID-19 and health challenges on attaining national policies and public service provisions in African countries. This study uses discourse analysis from relevant materials to analyse the disruptive effects of COVID-19 and health challenges on the attainment of national policies and public service provisions. Our study reveals that African countries have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic, and the effect was more severe for African regions than other regions. This has come at a cost such as the depletion of health systems and a painful economic crisis or recession. Respective African authorities need a coordinated and bold response. First, the health systems should be provided with investment funds to improve their capacity and functionality. Second, individuals with limited access to financial aids, entrepreneurs, and corporations should be provided with financial support to assist them in coping with the adverse effect of the coronavirus crisis. The policymakers must enforce national policies that can bolster the fiscal stability of the countries and promote the efficient provision of public services amidst catastrophic health challenges.
