ABSTRACT

Earlier in the year 2020, the whole world woke up to the biting effect of a new virus which started ravaging the People’s Republic of China since December 2019. The arrival brought a devastating effect on the education system and all schools were shut down. The study examines how schools in Ibadan metropolis coped with teaching during the lockdown. Selected secondary schools within Ibadan metropolis were used in order to find out the most preferred teaching platform used and the coping strategies of teachers during the lockdown. This was an empirical study where both qualitative and quantitative data were used and analysed. The study found out that the most used online teaching platforms were the messaging applications while the virtual applications were sparingly used. Teachers were able to cope with the rigour despite no serious training given on how to handle it. It can be concluded that if teachers are trained properly, they will do well in disseminating the knowledge to their students.
