ABSTRACT

The focus of this book is on a subset of these issues namely, on the relationship between general sustainable development policies and climate change strategies in developing countries. Some of the key methodological issues involved in developing a framework for assessing the sustainable development impacts of GHG emission-reduction policies are outlined and discussed. The case study at the end of the chapter illustrates how distributional weighting of the control cost and ancillary benefits of climate mitigation projects may impact project analysis. An assessment of the financial and social costs of GHG emission-reduction projects have been considered to provide very important information in relation to project evaluation currently discussed in the context of international climate change finance and the UNFCCC that clearly states that climate change policies should meet sustainable development objectives. It reviews the literature on sustainable development and offers some indicators that can be used for the analysis of sustainability at the project level.
