ABSTRACT

The probability of successful placement is enhanced when all therapies can be related to work, and vice-versa. The process of assessing and placing persons with traumatic brain injury (TBI) into the world of work is very complicated and tends to be compounded by many factors including, most notably, the disability itself. The impact of severe disability on work personality and performance varies significantly from one individual to another, and across different work settings. The vocational evaluator must have a thorough understanding of both the dynamics of the world of work and the impact of disability on work and human behavior. All assessment, work skills training, and work adjustment training may be provided either at the work site, or in as normalized an environment as possible such as neighboring vocational-technical schools, employer on-the-job training programs, occupational trials, projects with industry, apprenticeship programs, and the like.
