ABSTRACT

Work is one of the most highly valued roles in our society. Work is a means for achieving independence and life goals. The consequences of prolonged unemployment, therefore, impact not only economic status, but also one’s social and interpersonal well-being. The majority of head injuries occur to young males between the ages of 18 and 35 when they are beginning or establishing their work role. Surveys of businesses that frequently hire disabled workers reveal that employers want employees who are dependable, get along with co-workers, carry out supervisor instructions in a timely fashion, and work steadily on assigned tasks. The behavior management approach described includes functional analysis of work behavior and practical strategies to both reduce maladaptive behavior and increase prosocial skills in the work place. An objective definition is formulated from a global label or description by asking what behaviors the client engaged in to merit the label.
