ABSTRACT

So, I believe that the future of analysis in this country does not lie with the medical establishment. It lies with the people of the universities, with you ladies and gentlemen; especially, I would say, with young people not yet established in a career and who are now keen on putting Lacan’s teaching to use… . In so far as some among them, at least will in the long run have sufficient belief in what they themselves think concerning psychoanalysis to enter analytic experience proper and perhaps (for some of them at least) to practice it, it is they, the new analysts stemming from the universities (and some, I hope from the medical profession) who could in time change the course of American psychoanalysis.
