ABSTRACT

Beliefs about and behaviors concerning climate change are complex and multidimensional. Yet, there is clearly an attitudinal dimension ranging from those who endorse climate science arguments and advocate for sustainable economies to those who are cynical and sceptical about many aspects of climate change. This chapter focuses on the causes and correlates of climate change scepticism. It seeks to offer a psychological profile of the sustainability sceptic. It concerns the facets and domains of sustainability beliefs. It also considers the psychological causes that give rise to climate change scepticism. Finally, it considers recommendations about how use inoculation tactics and different forms of targeted and value-based messaging to change climate change beliefs, engagement, and behaviour towards sustainable development goals within organizations.
