ABSTRACT

Waves for Change, a South Africa-based NGO, addressed scaling challenges by building Teampact, a data-light mobile monitoring and micropayment platform to track and incentivize live session delivery. What began as support for its own programming and digital monitoring capabilities, this NGO realized the utility of the platform in becoming a stage for launching, scaling, and supporting a network of youth sport programs by streamlining program delivery. Teampact allows youth mentors, operating independently or as part of a broader organization, to receive funding for programs by sharing proof-of-session delivery in real-time, giving donors and agencies wider reach and greater visibility into activity on the ground. This became essential in the wake of COVID-19, acting as a remote monitoring and funding engine for mentors during the pandemic as access to support networks and services has been constrained.
