ABSTRACT

Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) leaders interested in being entrepreneurial and innovative are faced with an important question. What type of organizational structure or form should they use? This is an increasingly difficult question to answer with the emergence of several new types of organizational structures transcending the boundaries of traditional organizational forms. Moreover, the implications of such decisions can directly influence the sustainability of an organization and could unintentionally result in mission drift, organizational dysfunction, and even the demise of an organization unless properly managed. Therefore, the purpose of this chapter is to: (a) identify different types of hybrid organizational forms; (b) distinguish the opportunities and challenges of those organizational arrangements; (c) conceptualize how SDP leaders can manage the tensions associated with innovative organizational forms and sustain such organizations; and (d) highlight examples of these SDP hybrid structures in practice as well as future research opportunities.
