ABSTRACT

The field of Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) continues to evolve and is now increasingly formalized and recognized as an established institution within broader fields of international development and youth development. At the same time, several organizational actors continue to work to transform the field in different ways. The purpose of this chapter is to consider how SDP actors can enact change by transforming existing institutional arrangements. Specifically, the aim of this chapter is to (a) introduce and define the concept of institutional entrepreneurship; (b) highlight seminal literature from other disciplines on institutional entrepreneurship; (c) discuss how institutional entrepreneurship applies in the context of SDP; and (d) outline future pathways of how SDP researchers can advance the current body of knowledge by studying institutional entrepreneurship in SDP.
