ABSTRACT

Sport for Development organizations are increasingly seeking new income-generating models to improve the financial sustainability, scalability, and impact of their programs. This chapter explores why and how Kick4Life Football Club (FC) in Lesotho has pioneered a social enterprise approach as part of a wider funding model, and considers the challenges and lessons learned in doing so. The chapter also assesses the benefits of adopting this approach, from diversified income to creating beneficiary opportunities that are an extension of the impact model. Finally, the chapter looks beyond one organization to the importance of a collaborative approach to social enterprise development for nurturing a high impact and sustainable Sport for Development sector.
