ABSTRACT

The chapter provides an overview of the impact and potential of residential colleges (RCs) and the many opportunities for student growth and development in their learning spaces. The uniqueness of the Asian RCs featured in this book is highlighted along with observations on how students in RCs have benefitted in terms of help for transitioning and marginalised students, and academic and social support. RCs have also incorporated enabling factors and high-impact practices such as the intentional design of living-and-learning programmes, opportunities and resources for involvement and the social interactions within the RC environment. The chapter concludes with a road map of the book chapters and the case studies featured.
