ABSTRACT

This chapter will first highlight the contributions and lessons learnt from the case studies on various learning spaces. The authors of these case studies have demonstrated the growth and development of their students and the benefits that accrue to both students and faculty members when they collaborate on learning. These learning processes and outcomes were facilitated by the features of residential colleges (RCs) such as intentional curriculum design, committed faculty members, a supportive learning environment and room for student autonomy. This is followed by a review of the reflections about how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the design of learning spaces in RCs. The impact of the pandemic is discussed with regard to residential life, the mental wellness of students and academics (both teaching and research staff) and the quality of education, including issues of equal access to education. The chapter concludes with aspirations for the way forward to address these various areas of concern.
