ABSTRACT
Whether teaching qualitative methods or sociolinguistics, discourse analysis is an indispensable tool for studying how language is used to do things in the world. This lesson distills essential ideas and techniques of discourse analysis, which is not only a method but a field unto itself. Through readings, discussions, and a major discourse analysis project, students will establish a solid foundation for doing discourse analysis.
