ABSTRACT
Snowball and respondent-driven sampling are nonprobability sampling methods where study participants recruit future subjects from among their acquaintances. They are commonly used to sample hidden populations and are particularly useful when the population social network is highly connected. This lesson guides students through a conceptual understanding of the methodologies working with toy examples, reinforces their understanding with a group worksheet in class, and then utilizes a homework assignment to help students think through practical implementation.
