ABSTRACT
This lesson introduces students to the comparative method qualitative comparative analysis and, briefly, to the R software environment. This method is ideally suited to uncover causal complexity, as when combinations of factors jointly bring about an outcome or when multiple different pathways or recipes are associated with an outcome. This chapter also points students to resources for further reading and practicing the method.
