ABSTRACT

Through Chinese lens, this chapter investigates the relationship between and how Chinese conceive leadership and acquire prosperity. The chapter is based on François Jullien's work. It understands a Chinese conception of reality on the basis of silent motions; approaches prosperity as inherently available in the propensity of a human community, and not directly caused by activities such as meaning or intention. Following Jullien, the chapter also provides understandings on Chinese concepts of 道dào, 陰yīn or 陽yáng, and勢shì, applying them to the propensity of leadership, and explains how they can be utilized to acquire prosperity. The chapter also provides an interpretation of China's recent economic success from an insider view to demonstrate that a different perspective produces unique insights, an alternative reality, separate ways of approaching a situation that can bring about benefits that have been hitherto unavailable.
