ABSTRACT

The author frames this case study within the context of Turkey as an important intersection between Asia and Europe and its education system. It explains the middle school level and the introduction of branch teachers who extend the knowledge and skills from primary school by branching into new areas of study. It also examines the historical development of Turkey and its teacher training system. The author then describes the undergraduate programs that train teachers for middle level education in Atatürk Faculty of Education of Marmara University. The Atatürk Faculty of Education is one of the oldest and long-established institutions that train teachers in Turkey. The chapter considers the different branches in which teachers are trained for the middle school level, courses, and internships included in the program, opportunities such as double major and minor programs, the requirement for out-of-school learning, and the current situation regarding accreditation.
