ABSTRACT

The fear to descend under the ground has now been overcome by the advantages some scientists have proved. There is no doubt that energy requirements can be reduced of more than 50%, and studies have shown that modern techniques allow to maintain an ideal climate to work or to do any other activity. Examples of the air circulation system are given to support the benefits of underground buildings in terms of energy saving, without forgetting that also the form of the construction has an impact: for hot climate a squared form is more advantageous, on the contrary in cold areas a round form is preferable.
