ABSTRACT

The aging process produces liver changes that can be described as pathological. The main age-related changes are liver mass and total blood flow reductions, but there is also a change in liver enzymes, affecting drug metabolism. Aging is an important risk factor for most chronic diseases, being associated with increased vulnerability to acute liver injury and susceptibility to fibrotic response, an aspect enhanced by the common polymedication in this population. It is intended to describe the common changes in this population, and to evaluate the beneficial effect of pharmacological counseling provided for in the AGA@4life intervention program, as well as the possible impact on liver tissue of other individualized interventions within the project framework.
