ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the George Macgregor, titled “Digital Repositories and Discoverability: Definitions and Typology”, provides a coherent introduction and background to digital repositories, their emergence, and their typical characteristics. It discusses the “Understanding Repository Functionality and Structure”, Sharon Farnel explores discoverability in the context of digital repositories and the ease with which users can find and access resources. To ensure the effective management, accessibility, and discoverability of data, information, and digital objects in digital repositories, it is particularly important to develop a foundational and coherent understanding of the nature, types, functions, and user experiences of digital repositories, and of the factors affecting their discoverability. Discoverability, the ease with which a user can find information, is the cornerstone of all successful digital information platforms.
