ABSTRACT

It is worth noting that people always say psychosomatic and not somatopsychic, whereas Freudian theory begins with the soma and then moves towards the psyche. For Marty, the model of neurosis provides the sole term of comparison with psychosomatic praxis. The psychosomatic patient puts his soma and external reality in communication, while crushing everything that pertains to the mind. Psychosomatics chose to overlook psychosis and the borderline cases, but the tribute to Marty raised questions that cannot be found in the work of the late master. Already, at this time, Marty’s ambition was to elaborate a similar system in psychosomatics to that of metapsychology in psychoanalysis. This means that the psychoanalytic metapsychology is not applicable because its counterpart needs to be created for psychosomatics. It is absolutely impossible to understand the functioning of a psychosomatic structure if one does not make use of the notion of negative hallucination.
