ABSTRACT
This chapter defines the analytical framework of critical race theory and outlines how it can be used to guide qualitative inquiry for social justice. The author provides descriptions of major tenets including racism as normal, whiteness as property, race as a social construct, differential racialization, intersectionality, and interest convergence. Referencing the original works of the key architects of the theory, this chapter provides an introduction for those who want to explore how race and racism persist—sometimes invisibly—in life and society.
