ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the building process and the results of the World Love Index and its comparison with two ecological indices: the Humanitarian Protection Index and Red List Index. One of the fundamental characteristics of love is an abundance of care. That means that love is defined starting from itself and for itself without interest, without return, accounting or justification. In other words, it identifies a regime of action, relationship, and social interaction related to the dimension of overabundance. In practice it is shown by giving, by receiving, as well as, on many occasions, by not making or not doing, and by also by giving up. The World Love Index is the product of quantitative operationalization of the social love concept. It is based on individual survey data collected by two international organizations: Gallup World Poll and World Values Survey. The dimension of overabundance action is also detected at institutional level. The creation of the World Love Index highlights two types of social love orientation: traditional and modern social love. These orientations are evaluated with two ecological indices: Humanitarian Protection Index and Red List Index.
