ABSTRACT

Drawing from Carol Adams’s work on feminist vegan politics, this chapter details experiences with my life-long vegetarianism as a queer non-binary person who is in a relationship with a meat-eating partner and our struggles, compromises, and eventual bonding through food. I alternate between discussing how my vegetarianism is often taken as threat to those who interact with it, stories from my childhood growing up without meat, while recounting various instances of sharing vegetarian food with my partner, as well as my partner’s attempts to research vegetarian/vegan recipes as a form of “cultural exchange” between a vegetarian and a meat-eater.
