ABSTRACT

The high rate of growth and internationalisation could make emerging countries the appropriate context to explore the motivations of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to engage in international ventures. The logic behind emerging markets is turning them into attractive places for international entrepreneurs. This chapter aims to provide a joint academic-practice view to investigate the state of the art and development perspectives regarding technological advancement and subsequent transformations in emerging markets. Therefore, two different databases were considered to provide an all-encompassing analysis of the level of development. Our study used the Scopus database to identify 84 peer-reviewed articles written in English to gather scholarly discussion. On the other hand, to define practitioners’ views, we extracted 256 articles focused on the topic provided by Europresse. Subsequently, we adopted Leximancer software to analyse search and extract thesaurus-based concepts from textual data. The analysis results showed that international entrepreneurs tend to pursue a favourable environment between institutions and stakeholders. Furthermore, an intense sensitivity to a sustainable energy market is observed from an environmental and economic perspective. Moreover, the countries’ infrastructure is highlighted as a determining factor in attracting international entrepreneurs.
