ABSTRACT

Race is not a popular conversation topic in public spaces despite the fact that racialised experiences can be an everyday reality for many minoritised groups. Yet the changing cultural demographics of schools indicates a need for education systems to appreciate the importance of anti-racist values equipping students with intercultural skills that can lead to a meaningful life. Drawing on research across multiracial and multicultural jurisdictions, this chapter proposes an approach to developing anti-racist education. It explains the important features of such education. It also highlights the need to prepare students, pre-service and in-service teachers with intercultural skills based on solid values-based programmes that can address multiracial and multicultural realities.
