ABSTRACT

The recent report published by the Department of Economic and Social Welfare of the United Nations claims that people have finally arrived at a moment when there are more people living in cities than in the rural areas. It is also predicted that by 2050, at least 66 per cent population of the world will live in the urban areas. The word ‘urbanity’ in English conveys a series of meanings, essentially marking the relationship between city and culture – ranging from urban living standards, politeness, or refinement of culture practiced in the urban areas to picture of banal urban life. Urbanity as a concept has been generally associated with the urban phenomenon that appeared since Renaissance in Europe.
