ABSTRACT

Everything in education revolves around relationships – between teachers, the wider school team, parents, students and the local community. When we have positive relationships, we feel supported, valued and able to be at our best. But if those relationships are unhealthy, we can experience feelings of low self-esteem and confidence and reduced wellbeing. It makes our lives and work more difficult. Over time this erodes our mental and physical health, potentially to dangerous levels if the relationships become unhealthy, even toxic. This can happen in any organisation, and particularly when smaller teams are working under pressure together, which can often be the case in schools.
