ABSTRACT

Discussion around school cultures and parental collaboration is by no means a new initiative. Schools have developed a similar narrative to one another, with mirrored opportunities for families to engage. The intention of sharing the tried, tested and Ofsted approved results, is to encourage other schools to try the same approach. The Schools White Paper identified that schools will increasingly be accountable to parents for the progress and achievement of their pupils. The most impressive and successful programmes have been those that have included family learning: ‘parent’s take their place alongside educators in the schooling of their children, fitting together their knowledge of children, teaching, and learning with teacher’s knowledge’. Families need the opportunity to grow with the school, and schools require the opportunity to enable this powerful force to not only establish itself with the fundamental building blocks of their school ethos, but also be given the correct tools to flourish.
