ABSTRACT

We discuss precarity of labor, global inequities, and ideas of solidarity and civic mobilization in this chapter. Based on our reflections on some key moments during the global pandemic, we try to sensitize the readers about the ways in which the pandemic laid bare the disparities around us. We primarily share our insights on: a) work/workers deemed nonessential and disposable, b) logic of solidarity to serve the interests of the vulnerable communities living at the margins of the society, and c) global inequities. After reading this chapter, readers will be able to identify how organizational communication research can be used to better understand international disparities and precarity of work as well as develop an awareness of possibilities for solidarity and civic mobilization. We begin with our personal narratives before concluding with our suggestions for future directions in Organizational Communication.
