ABSTRACT

During the COVID-19 crisis universities in Spain have gone in different directions. While some initially stopped their activity or simply uploaded materials for students, others moved to online teaching or found a blended solution. Despite the dissimilitude, assessment has been a common concern. Language modules testing has been particularly challenging: teachers were forced to create ‘safe’ tests and environments. Students also had to adapt themselves to new assessment circumstances, their main concerns being Internet connections, proctoring, and isolation. This chapter identifies and explores not only changes necessitated by the transition to remote instruction, but mainly students' attitudes and perceptions towards online assessment and the challenges learners faced during this period. Data were collected through an anonymous online survey which was finally answered by only 64 students. The main findings show a general positive attitude, despite an array of negative feelings or perceptions, towards at-home online language tests.
