ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a brief overview regarding some of the global considerations that affect the lives, and deaths, of millions of children worldwide. Citing the work of international humanitarian organizations advocating for the rights and well-being of children, the chapter provides a momentary glimpse into today's youth. Further, there is discussion of themes and trends that are occurring for youth not living within global-scale crises, but are daily crises of a different kind (e.g., sexual violence, suicide, or depression). Recognizing some of the inherent tensions within the fields of child and youth studies and thanatology, the chapter attempts to explore ways of supporting youth as they grieve numerous losses, while simultaneously recognizing that some youth are not afforded the chance to grieve due to a multitude of factors beyond their control.
