ABSTRACT

Grief can be a powerful force for engagement in advocacy and social justice. The collective responses of bereaved individuals and communities to traumatic loss can bring attention to disenfranchised forms of grief and elevate the voices of youth who are often overlooked as grievers and denied as agents of social change. By presenting a dialogue held amongst four founding members of the Youth Coalition Combatting Islamophobia (YCCI), this chapter highlights ways in which youth are engaging in “grief activism,” taking ownership of their grief, reclaiming power, and mobilizing social change locally and internationally.
