ABSTRACT

THis introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of the book. This book focuses on the unheard issues or concerns of the pedagogical experiences and narratives of Asian American art educators. It offers a framework to address the pedagogical concerns of Asian American art educators as counternarratives and decolonization stories against White master pedagogy. Asian critical pedagogues recognize the transnational or intersectional art educational experiences between Asian American art educators and other people of color. The book includes the records of art educators curriculum development, teaching strategies, negotiation, advocacies, and pedagogical struggles and oppressions. Their decolonization efforts challenge the dominant education ideology as the representation and reflection of White values and norms in US schools and museums. The book presents the diverse voices of authors as allies dedicated to researching Asian art, culture, and philosophy by supporting Asian art educators’ professional growth and advocating their identity developments.
