ABSTRACT
The presence of African Christian communities in Europe and North America represents one of the most significant developments within world Christianity over the past three decades. Research on African diasporic churches has engaged scholars from a range of academic disciplines, providing different perspectives on the phenomenon. This chapter surveys the literature on African diasporic megachurches in Europe. It begins by setting the context and reviewing the literature, with a particular focus on Britain, Ukraine, and France, where most of the churches are located. This is followed by an examination of major themes in the literature. These include the influence of globalization and transnational connections, the churches' role as social and religious support networks, their theological outlook, their emphasis on mission and social engagement, the significance of leadership, and gender relations.
