ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces one of the distinctive characteristics of megachurches: the ways in which their associations, fellowships, and networks represent a major structural innovation in global religious collaboration. The chapter explores the transnational dimension of megachurch networks and their inherently flexible and responsive nature. Also, it explores the flows of information and resources and the emergence of new hierarchies. Along with charting the broad landscape of inter- and intra-ecumenical networks, the chapter draws on specific insights from the Megachurch 2020 study and research from the global Modernization, Megachurches, and the Urban Face of Christianity in the Global South project.
