ABSTRACT

Adventure tourism industries in countries like Nepal have always conducted businesses with their eyes focused on global tourism trends. In this chapter, the author briefly focuses on Nepal, where he have had almost three decades of research experience in high mountain tourism. The author think the COVID-19 has given the global adventure tourism industry an opportunity to reset. The adventure travel sector has the opportunity for turning its attention away from haphazard development to one that repositions itself as a major partner in contributing to sustainable and mindful travel. A positive impact of COVID-19 on future tourists, including those arriving in Australia, Nepal, India, New Zealand and similar other adventure travel-oriented countries, is a heightened sense of awareness of environmental health and wellbeing. Adventure travel destinations around the world should position themselves to capture this wave of the “new,” mindful, sustainability-oriented tourists.
