ABSTRACT
The growth of the Halal industry all around the world has increased the interest in logistics services, which are focused on guaranteeing traceability along the supply chain. In the case of Spain, a number of companies and port hubs are becoming certified to handle Halal products. Halal certification is a guarantee for exporters and importers to demonstrate that those companies are aware of the rules and particularities of Muslim culture. Furthermore, it helps them to ensure that their logistics processes are 100% Halal. Although the Halal sector generates a growing turnover of a billion euros, Spain is still far behind other European countries in terms of certification. Therefore, the aim of this chapter is to provide an initial overview of the current state of Halal certification in Spain and to highlight the opportunities, which can be generated in the near future in the logistics field.
